Inzaghi becomes fourth coach to keep Guardiola at bay at home in Champions League
Pep Guardiola has managed 84 home games in his entire coaching career in the Champions League between Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City. The duel against Inter left a rare record for his teams: the scoreless result. It is the fourth time it has happened since his first Champions League match back in 2008.

It's rare to see a team like Manchester City slip up, especially at the Etihad Stadium. But it is rarer still to see them fail to score. Not for lack of trying - they touched 49 balls into the opponent's box, the same as Bayern in their 9-2 win over Red Star. The British team had the chances, and some very clear ones, to win the game against Inter Milan, but they missed the target. Final result: scoreless. Fourth time this has happened to Pep Guardiola's team at home in Champions League matches. It's almost an exception... because he has managed 84 in that context.
April 2009. Barcelona hosted Guus Hiddink's Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals. It was a goalless draw (0-0) in what was the first time that Guardiola had been held scoreless in a European match at home. The English team, with Cech, Terry, Ballack, Lampard and Drogba in the squad resisted that first assault at the Camp Nou, but Iniesta's iconic goal at Stamford Bridge settled the tie in favour of the 'Cules' in Pep Guardiola's first Champions League title as coach. He lifted it in the final against Manchester United.
April 2014. Already at Bayern Munich, Pep Guardiola had the chance to reach his first Champions League final with the Bavarians. Facing them was Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid, with the ‘BBC’ in full swing. The Spaniard's phrase "they're athletes" will always remain in the press. After the 1-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu, the German team suffered with the constant counter-attacks of a ‘Merengue’ team that beat them 4-0 at the Allianz Arena.
March 2022. A significant leap of almost eight years to find Guardiola's team's next home game in the Champions League in which they failed to score. Already with Manchester City, in the 2021-22 edition, he faced a round of 16 against Sporting Portugal. In Lisbon he decided the tie with a resounding 5-0 win that left the task more than easy for the second leg. The result showed. With a goalless draw (0-0), the British advanced to the quarter-finals.
September 2024. Wednesday's match at the Etihad Stadium against Inter Milan was the fourth time that Guardiola's side had failed to score in Europe's top competition. They deserved to have done so, but the Italian side put up a resilient display and relied on a great performance from Sommer, who kept out several strikes.
