Atletico Madrid defender Clement Lenglet warned on Tuesday, after the 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, that his team is capable of “turning around” the tie at the Metropolitano, where they will have to play a “perfect” game.
“We are capable of turning this result around. We will have to play a perfect game to win it, because they are an opponent who has a lot of experience in this competition, who knows a lot about managing games and times, but we have our strengths to win,” he said.
“Coming here is always difficult. We lost but there are many positive things from what we did during the match. There is still the second leg. There are 90 minutes left. It's not good to lose, but you have to adapt to what you find along the way. We had to hold on for the last few minutes,” Lenglet continued.
“They had one chance to make it 3-1 and we held on to that 2-1. It's a bad result, but it's not that bad either, because we have the second leg with our people and we've seen that we can hurt them,” he added.
“We had a very good reaction after the first goal. We were right in many aspects of the game. They suffered a lot during 25 minutes of the first half and also during the second half, when we had some very good moments, but they are a dangerous team and they score goals when you least expect it or when they have a small chance,” he warned.
