Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone remarked on Sunday that the late equaliser against Real Madrid "is a well-deserved point" for his side, who he said sought the equaliser until the end, although he regretted not having achieved it earlier "because the game was not too bad to win".
"It's a point. The team looked for it until the end. I think it's a draw that we deserved. For me, it was a strange game. We had chances, they scored the opener, they were better than us, but we had more chances than they did. The second half was long, with few situations for either side. It wasn't nearly as exciting as the last few games," he said.
"A draw away from home is always good," continued Simeone, who insisted: "I think it was a weak game from both teams. It wasn't a vibrant game. It was more measured, careful: nobody wanted to make mistakes. The second half was similar. They had two chances, we had Griezmann's and the goal that was rightly disallowed, because Saul was in front of the goalkeeper, and the goal that gave us the draw, which is good enough for us," he said.
"Without a doubt, we tried to provide vitality in the middle, bringing back Llorente in midfield; with Barrios, who has more depth, with Correa on the right, Lino on the left, with Memphis.... Morata had made a great effort and we tried to look for the equaliser until the end," he said.
"The merit is that we looked for the goal to get closer on the scoreboard. It's a pity we couldn't do it earlier because the game wasn't too bad to have won it," continued Simeone, who said his players are "very well" for the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals against Athletic Club next Wednesday.
