Spanish defender Sergio Ramos assured on Sunday that he is not coming to Mexican football to stroll around and that he has signed for Monterrey with the idea of winning titles.
“I'm not coming to Mexico to take a stroll. I am a person who never tires of winning in football and does not live in the past. I'm not coming to put on a flag what I won. I'm looking for trophies and new opportunities,” said the 38-year-old at a press conference prior to his presentation with the club.
Ramos, a World Cup winner with Spain in South Africa 2010 and European champion in 2008 and 2012, and four-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, said: “The trophy list is there, but I'm here to bring my best version of myself. My gesture of coming from so far away speaks of my commitment and ambition. I want to keep winning.
Ramos will play in Monterrey wearing the number 93, in honour of the minute in which he scored the qualiser for Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final, in which the 'Merengues' beat Atletico 4-1 in extra time.
“It has been my most epic moment. It's an honour to leave the number four in the drawer and take out the 93, something sentimental,” he said.
