PSG coach Luis Enrique said his side are under no pressure but have "maximum ambition" ahead of the Champions League quarter-finals against Barcelona and said the five-month unbeaten run "is incredible" but they want to extend it.
"We've been on an incredible run, but we want to extend it, to reach the end of the season in the best condition," said the coach in an interview with the club's media, in which he assured that he has asked his players to prepare these last few months of the season "as if they were the last of their career".
Luis Enrique stated that they are facing the Champions League "with excitement, but not with pressure", and compared the record of his team, who have never won the competition, with that of Barcelona, who have won it five times: "The pressure will be on them. But it's impossible for them to be more excited than us," said the Asturian coach, who warned of "an excess of euphoria" and called for "finding the exact level of tension that allows us to be at 100%".
The Spanish coach was confident in his players but called for "taking care of every detail" because he said the tie "will be hard-fought, tight" and will require "being attentive during every minute". "The team that can have more of the ball and is more efficient in the decisive moments of the tie will win. Our aim will be not to speculate, to dominate the game here and there and to use our weapons," he said.
"This game will not be won by the coaches, it will be won by the players. We want to win the first game and then, in the second, we also want to try to win it," he added. Luis Enrique was pleased with the many possibilities his team has, where the players can play in different positions which allows him to "change the approach without changing the players".
Although they know the starting eleven, "the rival doesn't know how we're going to play, we do", he said. He also acknowledged that facing his former club "is difficult", but also "a stimulus" because his objective is to "show as a professional" that he can give "the maximum level". " Barcelona have a high level, at a collective level they are a good team. But I am convinced that we can eliminate them," he concluded.
