England are one of the favourites to win the next European Championship in Germany, so a place in Gareth Southgate's squad is at a premium, and so much so that it appears some world-class England stars could be left out of the squad.
David Ornstein, a journalist for ‘The Athletic’ has claimed that Manchester City's Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire of the Red Devils have been left out of Southgate's squad for the international tournament.
Jack Grealish, although important at the last EURO, appears to be out of England manager Southgate's plans, having scored just three goals in 36 appearances for four-time Premier League champions Man City this season.
The Manchester United centre-back, on the other hand, has been a key figure for the England manager, but a calf injury has kept him out of action since April. England confirmed in a statement that the 31-year-old was undergoing an individual training programme.
If this news is confirmed, both players would join the departures of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and midfielders Curtis Jones of Liverpool and James Maddison of Tottenham Hotspur, as the England squad confirmed on X on Thursday that all three are leaving the Three Lions training camp. Southgate has until 11 p.m. Friday night to confirm his 26-man squad for the tournament.
