Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been playing in the Eredivise with Dutch giants Ajax since January, but is now in line to make a shock return to the Premier League. The 34-year old left Anfield in the summer of 2023 to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq. However, his stint only lasted few months, as he decided to jump ship and join Ajax in the January transfer window.
According to 'The Sun', Henderson's former club Sunderland are among the interested teams, as 'The Mirror' also claims that several Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the Englishman. The midfielder made his debut as a professional footballer with Sunderland, registering 79 appearances for the club before signing for The Reds in 2011.
The player had initialy planned for a move back to England after his brief time in the Middle East, but tax issues forced him to opt for the Dutch club instead, as per 'The Sun'. The same outlet suggests that tax issues could stand in the way of a move again for the veteran midfielder.
While he features occasionally in the league, Henderson has been a regular started in Ajax's European fixtues, though he missed the game against Slavia Prague on Thursday due to an injury. Davy Klaassen's return to the Dutch team has meant that minutes have had to be shared between the pair.
