Joselu Mato said goodbye to Real Madrid after making his transfer to Qatar's Al Gharafa official on Friday afternoon, grateful for what he described as "the best year" of his life and after making a "very complicated" decision after fulfilling his "dream".
"The time has come, I simply thank Real Madrid for the best year of my life," he told EFE at the Donaueschingen base camp just after his departure from the 'Merengue' team became official.
"I have fulfilled the dream of playing for the team of my life, since I was a child, scoring goals at the Bernabeu, winning titles. It has been a very complicated decision, a long time thinking about it and in the end we considered it to be the best option. I have thought about it with my family and the people around me. It has cost me a lot to make it, but it is the right one", he explained.
Joselu feels that he is leaving Madrid after fulfilling the great dream of his career and ready for new challenges because of his desire to continue competing. "I've fulfilled the dream of any Madridista and I'm very proud of everything I've taken with me.
"I've considered myself a 'Merengue' since I was a child and the opportunity I've had to play for Madrid and the moments I've experienced, I'll never forget them in my career. I'll remember everything, from the first day I set foot in Valdebebeas on my presentation, the first day I played at the Bernabeu again, playing with the best in the world... it's priceless. I will remember it all my life", he confessed.
Finally, he was especially grateful to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and Jose Angel Sanchez, the club's general manager. "I'm grateful to the president and Jose Angel because they were key to my return, to my agent and to my wife who has been at my side every day," he said.
