Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has called up Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee to replace the second injury casualty in his 26-man squad for Euro 2024 after Teun Koopmeiners absence was confirmed two days after that of Frenkie de Jong, the Dutch Football Association said in a statement on Wednesday.
Zirkzee, who has 13 goals and six assists in 37 games this season for surprise package Bologna, who until this campaign were coached by Thiago Motta (the coach has joined Juventus for next season), is expected to join the 'Oranje' training camp in Wolfsburg on Thursday.
Koeman was already without Frenkie de Jong, who had not recovered from an ankle injury suffered two months ago with Barcelona against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, and was therefore out of the squad for Germany 2024.
He was replaced in the squad by Borussia Dortmund">Borussia Dortmund left-back Ian Maatsen. The Netherlands kick off Euro 2024 next Sunday against Poland in Hamburg.
