Juan Mata arrived at Galatasaray last September with overflowing enthusiasm. However, as the months have gone by, the player from Burgos has not been able to enjoy continuity in Turkish football. Although 'Fanatik' claims that he is negotiating his contract termination, his agent denies it: the player is just waiting for his chance.
The Spanish international landed on his feet in the Ottoman capital, scoring on his debut. However, as the weeks went by, he lost momentum. Last Friday, the 34-year-old playmaker was able to experience a turning point.
Mata started the last game against Hatayspor and responded by scoring a brace. "It's a pleasure to score in front of these fans. I feel very happy in Istanbul and at Galatasaray. I am grateful for the way I was welcomed from the first day," he said after the 4-0 win.
"Right now we are where we want to be in the league, but we have to be humble. There are a lot of games ahead," he added.
