The British King, Charles III, regretted the departure of Gareth Southgate after eight years in charge of the England team and praised his "brilliant work" with the Three Lions at the European Political Summit (EPC) held on Thursday at Blenheim Palace, on the outskirts of London.
According to British media, the monarch told the British deputy prime minister, Angela Rayner, that he felt "sorry" for the ex-head coach during the reception at the summit, which was attended by 50 European leaders who had travelled to the United Kingdom for the occasion.
Similarly, press reports claim that Rayner commented to Charles III on the "agonising" nature of last Sunday's European Championship final match in Berlin, where England lost 2-1 to Spain.
Two days after the defeat against Luis de la Fuente's ‘La Roja’, Gareth Southgate announced his resignation as England manager, which he had led since 2016.
