Kovacs to referee Champions League match between Inter and Atletico

Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs will be in charge of the first leg of the last-16 tie between Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Romanian Istvan Kovacs will referee the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie between Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid on 20 February.
The 39-year-old will be assisted on the sidelines by Romanian referees Vasile Florin Marinescu and Ovidiu Artene and German referee Marco Fritz on the VAR.
This will be the third time that the Romanian referee has officiated an Atletico Madrid match. The first was in the 2021/22 season, in the quarter-finals against Manchester City, with the English team winning 1-0. The second was on 4 October 2022, in the Champions League group stage, with Club Brugge winning 2-0.
The other round of 16 match on Tuesday 20 February between PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund">Borussia Dortmund will be refereed by Serbia's Srdjan Jovanovic, with Uros Stojkovis and Milan Mihajlovic assisting on the sidelines and Nejc Kajtazovic on the VAR.
