Toni Kroos announced a month ago that he would be hanging up his boots at the end of the European Championships in Germany, making this season his last at Real Madrid, as the German midfielder closed his chapter at the ‘Merengues’ in the best possible way.
After securing the La Liga title and winning the 15th Champions League title after beating Dortmund at Wembley, Toni Kroos addressed the thousands of fans who gathered in the streets of Madrid to answer one of the questions that remained unanswered after announcing his retirement.
The former Bayern Munich player took to the microphone and told the thousands of Madridistas who he wanted to be the next player to wear his iconic No 8 on his back next season. Fede Valverde, who has been an open admirer of Toni Kroos since he was a child, will be the heir to Kroos' legacy in Madrid's midfield.
"At the moment my No. 8 is available. ... It’s a pleasure to give it to this guy, Fede Valverde," said the former Bayern Munich player.
