Kvaratskhelia leads Georgia's Euro debut squad

The Georgian national team has announced its squad for Euro 2024 in Germany, the first in its history. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia leads the Georgian squad in a special tournament.

Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili head Georgia's squad for the European Championship, the first tournament of nations to be contested by the Caucasian side in its just over 30-year history.
French coach Willy Sagnol has named 26 players in his squad for Georgia's match against Turkey in Dortmund on 18 June.
As well as the Valencia goalkeeper, Levante midfielder Giorgi Kochorashvili was also called up, an essential part of Sagnol's squad. The squad, which will also face Portugal and the Czech Republic in Group F, includes three goalkeepers, eight defenders, 11 midfielders and four forwards.
Mamardashvili, one of the most promising goalkeepers in European football, will be joined by the ‘grandfather’ of the national team, 38-year-old Giorgi Loria. Among the defenders, veteran Slovan Bratislava defender Guram Kashia, who turns 37 in July, has been called up.
Among the midfielders travelling to Germany are Watford's Chakvetadze, Bordeaux's Davitashvili and Panetolikos' Shengelia. Kvaradona' will be joined up front by Karlsruher's Zivzivadze, the hero of the Nations League semi-final against Luxembourg.
Only two of the 26 players called up by Sagnol play for teams in the Georgian League, one for Dinamo Tbilisi (Loria) and the other for Dinamo Batumi (Tsitaishvili).
The Georgians, who qualified for the tournament by eliminating Greece on penalties, will play a single friendly match against Montenegro on 9 June.
