In the summer of 2021, Rayo Vallecano made a stunning move by signing Radamel Falcao. An exciting signing that unleashed a great deal of hype in the club and its fans. Now, three years later, another Colombian could raise passions in Vallecas.
As reported by ‘Marca’, the Madrid-based club are working to bring James Rodriguez to the club. The former Real Madrid player is coming off the back of an excellent Copa America (1 goal and 6 assists) and many teams have set their sights on him.
Lazio and, in Spain, Celta Vigo are also looking to sign him, but Rayo Vallecano do not seem to be intimidated by their potential rivals when it comes to signing the ‘Cafetero’ star, whose signing would be the icing on the cake for the club in the year in which they celebrate their centenary.
However, the deal is not likely to be an easy one, as competition from other clubs is added to the obligation to reach a feasible financial agreement with the player, whose stock has risen again after his great performance with the Colombian national team in the recent continental tournament.
If the parties manage to sort out the always complicated financial aspect, James Rodriguez's return to La Liga could be a reality four years after his departure from Real Madrid. In total, James made 85 La Liga appearances for the Spanish side since his arrival in the 2014-15 campaign, scoring 29 goals and making 27 assists. These figures were not higher due to his lack of understanding with Zinedine Zidane, who coached him for most of his time in the Spanish capital, and the two seasons he spent on loan at Bayern Munich.
