Deco addressed several current FC Barcelona issues, among them the January transfer window, which is already over, and the capacity for growth of a squad with many young players who already seem more than established in the first team.

Barcelona's sporting director is a little calmer at this point in the season. With a title under his arm after winning the Spanish Super Cup, the Portuguese has less of a burden once the winter market is also closed. With the recent renewals of Pedri, Gavi and Araujo, Deco knows how important it is to give continuity to a squad with a lot of young players with potential.
“Barcelona always have to fight to win all the titles,” he said in one of the first sentences of the interview with 'Sport'. That winning gene is what the sporting director wants to recover. “To say that we are not going to fight to win is a lie. Sometimes you are in a position to fight and sometimes not, but Barca is a club that must always aim to win the titles it plays for,” he added.
About Hansi Flick, Deco was always clear that he was a coach who had what Barca needed after Xavi's departure: “We needed someone with experience, proven, who could bring order to the dressing room. The squad is a big family, but it is difficult to manage because of the balance, there are 35-year-old players and Lamine is 17”. Regarding his renewal: “We go too fast with everything here, we go from euphoria to despair in a minute. We have won a title, the sensations are good. We are very happy with the work that is being done and, if everything continues like this, we will work for many years to come.
Barcelona have a young squad, but they are players who accept the weight of a big club. “Cubarsi and Lamine are different cases, they are weirdos. So is Marc Bernal. They are rare because they are too young for the personality they have and the pressure of having to play for Barca. And they have quality. Kounde is crucial, Araujo is 25 years old and is in his prime, Balde is improving. Pedri looks like he's 30 and he's 22, Gavi is 20...”, he recalled.
“Lamine Yamal is a home-grown player. I think Lamine feels this, enjoys and is happy at Barca. He has his friends, his family. From here, we must do our homework, try to make him happy and make the contracts. He is a key player and is priceless. We are not going to listen to offers.
