Maurizio Sarri's time at Lazio has come to an end, reports 'Sport Mediaset'. The Italian coach has decided to step aside and resign from his post after a bad run that has distanced the Italian team from the European positions.
The fourth consecutive defeat, three of them in Serie A, have been key to Sarri's decision, who leaves the club he signed for in 2021 and has led to both the Europa League and the Champions League.
On Tuesday, hours after the defeat at the Olimpico in Rome against Udinese, the transalpine coach handed in his resignation to the club coached by Claudio Lotito. Lazio are in ninth place with 40 points, seven points behind Atalanta, the club that currently occupies the European places.
In addition, the 'Laziale' were eliminated last week from the Champions League after winning the first leg against Bayern Munich but lost at the Allianz Arena.
Sarri had a contract with Lazio until 2025. He leaves the Italian club after 97 official matches in charge and with a record of 46 wins, 20 draws and 31 defeats.
There are already several names of possible replacements for Sarri. Sport Mediaset' gives, among others, those of Tommaso Rocchi, a legend of the 'Laziale' club and current U14 coach, Miroslav Klose or Angelo Gregucci.
