Barca struggled from the start against Manchester United. However, in one of their first chances, they managed to open the scoring through a penalty taken by Robert Lewandowski.
On 16 minutes of the first half, Alejandro Balde went on the attack and got into the box, but Bruno Fernandes grabbed him by the arm and the referee did not hesitate to award a penalty in favour of Xavi Hernandez's team.
Lewandowski took over the spot-kick and, with a bit of suspense, converted Barca's first with a right-footed shot that almost ended up in David de Gea's hands.
Thus, Man Utd will have to come from behind at Old Trafford if they are to book a place in the next round of the Europa League as the first leg ended 2-2.
