It sounds strange, but it's true. Liechtenstein is one of Cristiano Ronaldo's bogey teams with Portugal. In fact, he has only faced four other teams without scoring a single goal. This Thursday, he will be looking for his first goal against the Principality side.
Twice the Al Nassr player has faced a modest side currently ranked 198th out of 211 in the FIFA rankings. Despite their lower level, they managed to draw at home against the Portuguese and force the 'Quinas' to come from behind in the return leg in both matches.
Cristiano started alongside Deco, Simao, Pauleta and Co. in October 2004 in the World Cup qualifiers at Leichtenstein, where an upset came. Pauleta and Hasler's goals gave the visitors the lead, but Burgmeier and Beck, against all odds, made it 2-2 in the second half.
Nor did the former Manchester United player score in the second leg. The Principality side went into the break with a surprising 0-1 lead after Fischer's goal, but Pauleta and Nuno Gomes, the latter in the 85th minute, turned the game around. Ronaldo played 62 minutes in the first leg and 84 in the second, when he left the field just before the winning goal.
Liechtenstein thus have the honour of being one of only nine teams that CR7 has not scored against on more than one occasion. Twice he also went scoreless against North Macedonia, Uruguay, Cape Verde and Italy, while he did not score against England, Brazil or Turkey despite playing them three times. Albania, who, after four games against Ronaldo, have yet to concede a goal against him, lead the way.
