Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has delivered a concerning injury update on Victor Lindelof, who suffered a new setback during the 4-3 Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham. Lindelof, who had recently returned to fitness after a groin injury sustained during the Nations League, was forced off the pitch just before half-time against Spurs, visibly in pain and unable to continue.
This latest injury is a significant blow to United. "I think he has something we have to assess to say specifically what he has, but it's tough to lose a player," Amorim told MUTV, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the extent of the injury.
Lindelof's departure from the game was immediate, as he headed down the tunnel with a physio, indicating the severity of the issue. Amorim expressed the challenges of managing injuries within the current demanding schedule, stating, "They work really hard, they want to return but like I said, the same thing with Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Vic, they had injuries, they don't have space to train.
"The club is now launching an investigation to determine the exact nature of Lindelof's latest complaint. This setback adds to United's injury woes, with other key players like Mason Mount and Luke Shaw also dealing with fitness issues. Amorim emphasized the need for a full squad given the congested fixture schedule, saying, "Just preparing games is not perfect so we'll try to do it again altogether to have the full squad because with this schedule we need the full squad."
The injury to Lindelof comes at a critical time for Manchester United, who are navigating a challenging period in both domestic and cup competitions. His absence will likely impact the team's defensive lineup and overall performance. As United prepare for their next matches, including a Premier League encounter against Bournemouth, the fitness of key players will be under close scrutiny.
