Liverpool coach Klopp confirmed that Cameroon defender Joel Matip has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament after suffering an injury in Sunday's win over Fulham.
"It's an ACL, ruptured, so that's what I unfortunately expected from, that's what it looked like. Very unfortunate, but that's it," he told reporters.
The 32-year-old is suffering from the same injury as several top players in European leagues such as Barcelona's Gavi and Real Madrid's Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois. The Cameroonian defender will be out of action for the rest of the campaign.
Matip will have to focus on his recovery in order to return to action next season with Liverpool or a new club as his contract expires in June 2024.
