After Jurgen Klopp announced his shock decision to step down as Liverpool manager at the end of the season after claiming he did not have the energy to continue, the search for a new manager for the Reds next season has not ceased. The ideal replacement would be the coach of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso, who also has a history with the Anfield club.
But the Spanish coach is reluctant to comment on the matter and recently said in a statement 'my head is here' and that he is enjoying his time with the team. So if the former Liverpool player rejects the offer to coach the Reds next season, the board have already identified two more possible candidates.
According to reports in 'The Telegraph', Liverpool will try to secure the services of Julian Nagelsmann, who is currently in charge of the German national team after a brief and unsuccessful spell at Bayern last season.
Another candidate according to the paper's sources is Ruben Amorim, coach of Sporting CP. However, this option is more complicated as the coach has two more seasons with the Portuguese side on his contract and the English side would have to pay financial compensation for him to join them.
