Liverpool were battling throughout the 2022/23 season to reach the Champions League places but were unable to do so as they finished in fifth place. They qualified to play in the Europa League.
Nonetheless, Jurgen Klopp's side will be fighting to win trophies next season. They are working to strengthen their squad after releasing 11 players such as Roberto Firmino.
Real Madrid are not short of talent in their midfield, and have already added to the collection this summer with Jude Bellingham. Game time will be a precious commodity, and the Reds are willing to test the resolve of Fede Valverde with a second offer, worth €90 million.
This has attracted the attention of a few clubs, who believe they can tempt away players who won't want to compete for minutes, and among them are Liverpool. Valverde struggled last season coming back from the World Cup break in December, which may make it seem more acceptable for Florentino Perez's club to let him go.
Although Liverpool have already signed Alexis Mac Allister this summer, they need to combat the departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita, and the Uruguayan would provide plenty of experience, despite his relatively young age.
Despite Kounde stating that he didn't want to leave the club, the Reds are still trying to tempt him away from Barcelona. The young Frenchman is still yet to peak at the Spanish side, mostly because Xavi has been playing him as a right-back rather than in the centre.
Klopp's side would be willing to offer 60 million euros for the French defender, which would go a long way to help Xavi Hernandez's side work within the remits of their 'Financial Fair-Play' plans.
The former Sevilla centre-back joined the Catales giants in the last summer transfer window and could leave the Camp Nou outfit just over a year later. He scored one goal and provided six assists in 40 appearances in the 2022/23 season.
Medical has been scheduled at Liverpool for RB Leipzig's Szoboszlai after the Reds triggered the Hungarian's release clause, which expired on Friday. They have moved quickly with the 22-year-old.
If the move is successful, the Hungarian will join Alexis Mac Allister in the Liverpool midfield, after the Argentinian made the move from Brighton earlier this summer.
Szoboszlai joined Leipzig from RB Salzburg in January 2021, and has scored 20 goals and provided 21 assists in his 91 appearances for the club. The Hungarian is very close to playing in a Liverpool shirt next campaign.
