Luis Suarez returns to the Uruguayan national team
At the age of 36, Luis Suarez is back in the Uruguay squad. Marcelo Bielsa has called him up for this month's matches against Lionel Messi's Argentina and Bolivia in World Cup qualifying.

Historic goalscorer Luis Suarez will return to play for the Uruguay national team after being called up by Marcelo Bielsa for the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup against Argentina and Bolivia. On Monday, the Uruguayan Football Association announced the list of called-up players, in which the main changes are the call-up of the Gremio striker and the return of centre-back Jose Maria Gimenez and midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.
The last time the three players played for Uruguay was in the match in which the 'Celeste' said goodbye to the World Cup in Qatar 2022, beating Ghana 2-0 with goals from Giorgian de Arrascaeta. Suarez, until now, had not been called up by Bielsa, Gimenez was suspended and Bentancur recovered, days ago, from a serious injury he suffered in February this year playing for Tottenham Hotspur.
