Portuguese referee Artur Dias has been chosen to lead the Real Madrid-Manchester City game in the Champions League semi-final first-leg, to be played this Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Dias will be accompanied on the flanks by compatriots Paulo Soares and Pedro Ribeiro, while the 4th Official will be Italian Daniele Orsato Antonio Nobre, with Italian Massimilano Irrati and Portuguese Tiago Martins on the VAR.
At 43 years of age and an official FIFA licensed referee since 2010, so far this season he has taken charge of four Champions League ties: Red Star-Pyunik (5-0), Liverpool-Ajax (2-1), Copenhagen-Manchester City (0-0) and Frankfurt-Napoli (0-2).
It's a choice which will prove unpopular amongst City fans as referee Dias was the one who disallowed a Rodri goal in the game against Copenhagen in October, with the VAR official Irrati being controversially involved in the decision to allow then-Tottenham's Llorente's goal to be scored in the UCL quarter-final 2019, ultimately knocking out the Citizens.
