Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti was very pleased with the performances of his new signings on Sunday night in Los Angeles, as they came from behind to beat AC Milan 3-2. In the post-match press conference, he highlighted in particular Jude Bellingham in his debut for 'Los Blancos', who displayed an "extraordinary" quality, at just 20 years old.
"Between lines, Bellingham's position was good, he played a good match. Obviously, the team needs to adjust more to his quality, which is extraordinary, because his movement into the box is something really important for us", declared the coach, who also emphasised that his "intensity" and "rhythm" set him apart from the other Madrid midfielders.
"It's rare to find a player with that kind of quality. It's rare to find that quality at 20 years old. He can definitely improve, but I think we're lucky to have him in our squad... this team makes me feel very confident", he noted.
Madrid's second half comeback came thanks to a brace from Fede Valverde and a final goal from Vinicius Jr. Ancelotti tried out a 4-4-2, a new system he wants to try out this season, and he put Bellingham in as the lynchpin behind the attack.
"I liked it yes, (the new tactical style). It's true that there are things that we need to change a bit. We found it difficult playing out from the back because we've tried to play a bit more down the centre, less down the wings", he analysed.
Finally, the coach believes that the best position for Bellingham is as a '10' in the 4-4-2, as it gives him the most options to play with: "His best position is as '10' because he has more options and he's closer to the opponent's box. This is the system we're trying now, but we have to wait a bit longer to see how it goes during the season".
