Real Madrid and England star Jude Bellingham won the Kopa Trophy for the best player of last season aged under 21 at the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris on Monday.
The Madrid midfielder also finished 18th in the ranking for this year's Ballon d'Or, something he also alluded to when he gave his speech after receiving the award for the best player under 21.
For the former Bourssia Dortmund player, Leo Messi is the deserving winner of the most prestigious individual award in world football. "It's World Cup year and Lionel Messi had a fantastic World Cup, he deserves to win the Ballon d'Or," he said.
