The 5 big leagues in Europe - La Liga, Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 - have reportedly reached an agreement to bring forward the closure of the summer transfer window.
'The Times' exclusive, which also gives a specific date, 15th August. The intention is to close the market before the start of the competitions. That is to say, to have the squad closed when the first matchday is played.
This has been one of the main complaints of the coaches over the last few years. The fact is that, with the early start of the competitions, 2, 3 or even 4 matchdays were played before the end of the season.
In this way, it is intended that the clubs have their full squad from the start and that there is no transfer of players due to their performances, one of the fears of the coaches.
The Premier League would be the competition where the idea was conceived, with the agreement of all the clubs. They were later joined by the other four big leagues.
Likewise, the ECA, according to the source, would also look favourably on this suggestion and would be willing to study it in the very near future.
However, the big fear is Saudi Arabia. The fact that the 5 big leagues decide to close the market earlier does not mean that all competitions will do so. This would leave these leagues exposed to emerging markets such as Arabia, which has already taken some of European football's top players and has no intention of joining the 15th August deadline.
