Man City considering Liverpool target Zubimendi to replace Rodri

The loss of one of their key players has led Manchester City to scour the market for a replacement for Rodri, who will miss the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury.
The candidate that has emerged is Martin Zubimendi, a key player at Real Sociedad and one of Luis de la Fuente's regulars in the Spain national team squad.
The Basque player has a contract until 2027 with Real Sociedad and another important fact for the Cityzens is that they would have to pay a release clause of around 60 million euros to acquire his services.
The Spanish midfielder was on the verge of joining Liverpool in the summer transfer window but in the end it did not happen. Another candidate, but a little further back in time, was Barcelona when Xavi Hernandez was in charge of the Azulgrana bench.
After the last Premier League draw against Newcastle, Guardiola's team are thinking that the loss of Rodri is bigger than expected and they will need to fill the gap with a candidate at the same level as the Real Sociedad player.
The 25-year-old seems to be reluctant to leave Spain despite these various candidates but it remains to be seen if the Sky Blues boss is able to convince the midfielder to join the Etihad Stadium project in the upcoming January transfer window.
