Manchester United have struggled to adapt to Ruben Amorim's style of play. The Portuguese manager, brought to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in November, hasn't had much time to implement his ideas to his new players, who have been used to playing with Erik ten Hag's 4-2-3-1 throughout the past two seasons.
Having made the shocking admission that his squad is "the worst Man United in history", it is clear that Amorim wants fresh players who suit his vision on the pitch. Priority has been put on finding new faces for the wingback positions, which is where United are shortest on, as they are key to Amorim's preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.
According to Fabrizio Romano and 'Sky Sport' journalist Florian Plettenberg, United have set their sights on Patrick Dorgu as the first recruit for the Ruben Amorim era. Although he is far from a household name, the 20-year-old defender has put up some impressive performances this season with Lecce and could slip into the Red Devils' new system.
Man United had reportedly targeted Paris Saint-Germain's Nuno Mendes for the left wingback role, but have recently turned towards the Danish player as he represents a cheaper option for the club. The Red Devils are set to open talks with the Italian side and will be looking to splash out around €40m for Dorgu, who is understood to be very keen on the move.
