Last season, few doubted that Erik ten Hag was the right man to manage Manchester United. He returned them to the Champions League and secured one of the top spots in the Premier League by pulling in talented up-and-coming players like Marcus Rashford. Unfortunately for the United fans, the following season, the one that has just ended, saw a slump in form that is hard to argue with.
The Red Devils finished eighth in the English Premier League and saved the spoils by beating Pep Guardiola's City in the FA Cup, thereby securing a ticket to Europe's second-tier competition for the 2024/25 campaign. This last-minute turnaround appears to have given INEOS a new perspective on their bench, and they will place even more trust in the Dutch tactician than before.
After it was confirmed that the former Ajax coach will continue at the helm of the Mancunian outfit next season, Fabrizio Romano claims that bosses at the Theatre of Dreams are in talks with the former Ajax man's agents to renew him despite the fact that he is already under contract until 30th June 2025.
Although the kindest analysis of Erik ten Hag might focus on the fact that Manchester United have faith in in him, market reports are not that kind. Just a few days ago, the Italian journalist mentioned in the previous paragraph reported that Thomas Tuchel had rejected an offer. This being the case, the possible extension of his counterpart's contract changes its tone and moves away from faith to the absence of a firm alternative.
