Manchester United started the game convinced they would be in the FA Cup fourth round from the opening minutes. Ten Hag's side had numerous chances in the first half but it was not until the 22nd minute that they took the lead after Fernandes fed Dalot on the edge of the box, only for the defender's shot to beat Tickle for the opener.
In the second half Ten Hag's side continued to have chances but failed to capitalise on Wigan's second goal, and the League One side had a few chances but without much danger to Onana. Around the 73rd minute Shaw brought down Fernandes inside the box and the referee awarded a penalty which the Portuguese midfielder did not hesitate to take and sent Tickle the wrong side of the ball to score the second for Ten Hag's side, who will finally advance to the next round of the FA Cup.
