Andre Onana has not had a good start to his Manchester United career. The former Inter Milan goalkeeper, who joined the Mancunian club from the Italian club for a reported 55 million euros, has been one of the most criticised players at a struggling Red Devils.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper was key to Simone Inzaghi's side last season, helping the Giuseppe Meazza outfit reach the Champions League final. However, the Cameroon international's reputation appears to have faded after a string of poor performances in his first few games for the English club.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was asked about his goalkeeper's form at a press conference ahead of the Premeier League game against Sheffield United.
"He knows, we know, he will do much better. Every player who's coming into the Premier League, you need an integration period, but he has to step up. Big United keepers like Peter Schmeichel and David de Gea started not too good doomed. Andre knows that it is good to know a little bit from history," said the Dutch coach.
"But we live now, we live in the future and he has to make his future by giving better performances. I'm sure he will do. He showed it at Barcelona, Ajax, Inter Milan, he was in the semi-final and final of the Champions League, I'm sure he will give a great performance," concluded Ten Hag.
Onana has conceded 19 goals in his first 11 games as a Red Devil, which has left the Old Trafford outfit sitting tenth in the Premier League table.
