Lisandro Martinez has travelled to London to undergo surgery to repair his torn anterior cruciate ligament on Thursday evening. The centre-back suffered the injury in the Red Devils' 0-2 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on February 2.
According to what was reported by 'Mail Sport', the decision to proceed with an operation was made after Manchester United's medical assessed that it would be the best course of action for the 27-year-old Argentine defender.
With initial signs pointing towards a successful procedure, Martinez is set to begin a recovery process that will keep him away from the pitch for at least the remainder of the season. The same report informs that he could be out for anywhere between 6 to 12 months.
While Martinez will not be able to aid his struggling side this term, he could look to a return to fitness at the start of the following campaign, should he respond well to the rehabilitation period. His 2024/25 season ends with 2 goals and 2 assists from 32 appearances under Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.
