According to reports in England, Manchester United will only regain their interest in Matthijs de Ligt if they sell a defender in the summer transfer window, as they believe that Leny Yoro's possible arrival would be enough to reinforce their defensive line.

Manchester United want to reinforce their defensive line at all costs. They are on the verge of completing the transfer of Leny Yoro from Ligue 1 side Lille for 62 million euros after an intense race for his services with Real Madrid.
However, the 18-year-old was not the Red Devils' top priority from the beginning of the summer transfer window. Matthijs de Ligt, who already played for Erik ten Hag at Ajax, was one of the main contenders to move to Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag is well-known for wanting to sign for his current club some players who were under his charge in the Eredivisie such as Antony, whose transfer was one of United's most disappointing purchases due to the large investment they made in his services.
However, the Premier League side have decided to park their interest in the Bayern Munich player and would only move for him if they sell any of the defenders in the current squad. If not, Lisandro Martinez is expected to create an unstoppable combo with Leny Yoro in defence for the 2024/25 season.
