Dutch coach Erik ten Hag has been under ramping pressure following successive disappointing results in this opening of the season. Manchester United have only won two of their seven Premier League games thus far with the team currently sitting in 14th position on the table.
Ten Hag is under contract until June 2026 after being renewed for another season this summer. Should United want to sack the manager, they will have to pay him a severance package of around £16m.
But the initial intention of the new board led by Jim Ratcliffe was not to renew him, but to find a perfect replacement. But they received many refusals and ended up renewing the Dutchman.
Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness, who has led the Bundesliga side into the Champions League, was approached by Manchester United but the 42-year-old turned them down because he wants to continue running the project he has created in his native Germany.
