Marcos Alonso expected to replace Mario Hermoso
The newspaper ‘Sport’ takes it for granted that Marcos Alonso will leave Barcelona on 30 June, when his contract expires. It is quite likely that he will join Atletico Madrid as a free agent, where he will take the place that Mario Hermoso will free up under the same conditions. The replacement should make room in the budget of the Civitas Metropolitano, who will, of course, lose a player who has made a record number of appearances this season.

Next season, Marcos Alonso will take Mario Hermoso's place at Atletico Madrid. The newspaper ‘Sport’, in a report on Wednesday, takes this change for granted. The still Barcelona defender finishes his contract on June 30, like Simeone's player, so the operation is ready to happen.
In his two seasons at Barcelona, the former Chelsea man only featured prominently in the 22-23 season, the one in which he made his debut. He made 37 appearances, 20 of them as a starter. The following year, he only made eight, five of them as part of the starting line-up.
The still ‘Colchonero’ player, on the other hand, has made a record number of minutes this season, in which he has played 44 times, 42 of them as a starter. That is why the fact that the Civitas Metropolitanoa have given the green light to his farewell is more striking than the situation of his compatriot, who, in addition, has the incentive that his father defended the ‘Rojiblanco’ colours.
It is quite likely that, by removing Mario Hermoso's salary from the budget and adding Marcos Alonso's, Atletico Madrid will gain some room for manoeuvre in the transfer market. Perhaps this is part of a series of decisions that Enrique Cerezo's board will have to make in order to bring in some major reinforcements for next season.
