Liverpool are making progress in their intention to sign Martin Zubimendi and are once again drawing up a plan that they have already completed with other players: Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai or Ibrahima Konate also arrived through this release clause.

This transfer window is set to be a historic one for Real Sociedad in terms of the amount of money they could pocket, but it is also very complicated because of the number of important players who could leave the 'Txuri-urdin' squad. Robin Le Normand has already left the team, heading for Atletico, and Mikel Merino is still a target for Arsenal. The latest name to come to the fore has been that of Martin Zubimendi, with Liverpool keen to sign him.
The news broke on Wednesday: the Reds are targeting him and even plan to pay his released clause, set at around 60 million euros. The player has a contract until 2027 and Real Sociedad are demanding full payment. To take this step, the English club needed the player's "yes", something that, according to 'Relevo', would come in the event that Liverpool were determined to make the deal.
The player values his current situation in San Sebastian, but he is attracted by the option of going to England to a giant club that, in addition, has the challenge of continuing to compete in the top flight after the departure of Jurgen Klopp. The player's green light will help Liverpool to try to negotiate with Real Sociedad a more beneficial way for both parties than paying the release clause.
The British team is proposing a payment higher than the clause, estimated at around 60 million euros, but one that is easier to pay: in several instalments and not in a single one, as the San Sebastian team has so far demanded. Both sides are discussing this in a new round of talks.
Meanwhile, Martin Zubimendi has made headlines in England on Thursday. Liverpool fans are excited about his signing and see him as a Xabi Alonso lookalike. In fact, the Bayer Leverkusen coach's current agent is also that of the Spanish midfielder.
