There is still an ongoing stir over Mateu Lahoz's performance in the match between the Netherlands and Argentina. The Valencian referee was criticised by both sides for some of his decisions.
For that reason, according to Ramon Fuentes in 'Mundo Deportivo', FIFA have practically ruled him out to referee a hypothetical final if the 'Albiceleste' were to arrive. The referee is still among the 20 referees who remain in the World Cup.
Despite this fact, they do not question his performance in the quarter-finals. The FIFA board consider that it was correct and that it was a campaign to discredit him.
FIFA considers the post-match comments of some Argentinian players, such as Leo Messi or Dibu Martinez, to be unfair.
