Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe accepted the proposal after discussions with coach Didier Deschamps and Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann was named vice-captain.
The French national team have made these changes following the international retirements of Hugo Lloris and Raphael Varane. However, not everyone agrees with the coach's decision.
Griezmann said he was 'hurt' and 'disappointed' and was considering retiring from France duty. According to 'GOAL', the 32-year-old is reportedly furious Mbappe is France skipper.
But he is not the only one who thinks Deschamps has made a mistake. Former Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires spoke to 'L'Equipe' to give his opinion: "A logical choice? Honestly, no. Considering the longevity, the years gone by, I was expecting it to be Griezmann.
"I am surprised. It's a lack of respect for Antoine. But I insist, I have nothing against Mbappe," he concluded.
