On Monday, 'L'Equipe' reported that Kylian Mbappe didn't renew his contract until 2025 with PSG when he rejected Real Madrid, but until 2024 instead with the option to extend it by a year automatically whenever he wanted. The Parc des Princes boardmen have four months left for him to do so or they'll have to think about selling if they don't want to et him go for free in 2024.

The year before a footballer's contract ends is the most important. Prices go down and the owner has their last chance to get some money through a sale before the player is free to leave on a free. With Kylian Mbappe, this would happen in 2024 if he doesn't automatically renew until 2025 at the Parc des Princes. He can do so if he desires.
'L'Equipe', on Monday, reported it. The newspaper focused on the great game he had against Marseille. He worked wonders with Leo Messi to destroy the south coast side's defence. With that to one side, the interesting thing is that the Frenchman didn't committ until 2025 when he rejected Real Madrid, but until 2024 with the option of another year which he can activate automatically.
The pretigious newspaper claim that the Parc des Princes board's priority is to convince him to stay. He's got four months before the summer window opens, which, if he goes into it without having signed for another season, he'll become perfect prey for Madrid to close in, even if the PSG board have made it clear they can reject whatever offer, however high it may be.
Therefore, Mbappe is in basically the same situation as last summer. He's got to decide if he wants to tie himself down to stay at PSG of if he wants to open the door to a potential move. Not renewing seems to fit but equally he doesn't want to go so early, which would leave his owners in a weak position: they may lose him without getting any money in the summer of 2024.
