Fede Valverde was one of the Real Madrid players to speak ahead of the European Super Cup. The Uruguayan appeared alongside teammate Dani Carvajal and coach Carlo Ancelotti.
The new Real Madrid No 8, inherited from Toni Kroos, assured that he is looking forward to the game "with a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of desire, with players who come to contribute".
"I want to give my best, wherever I'm needed in the team. I want to keep growing. I want to be another leader and give my best to the team. I will give my best wherever the team needs me," he said.
"I got to share a couple of training sessions with Mbappe. We know what kind of player he is, he's coming to contribute a lot, with a lot of desire. He looks very motivated at Real Madrid and he's going to leave his mark on this club.
"We have to fly 12 hours for every match with our national team, 12 hours back. It's very complicated. This year we have trained a lot less, we have less fuel. We try to do our best every day, we try to give the maximum to our body, but our body also gets saturated and it's complicated," Valverde said of the packed schedule that could see Real Madrid play 72 games this term.
"We know what Kroos was for football, for Madrid, for me. I grew up with him, every word and advice was for me an honour. To be able to have his number is a tremendous pride not only for me, but for my family. Trying to give my best with this number, trying to be Federico Valverde, trying to contribute as a player, a person, a team-mate. Obviously he misses being able to share talks with him, but life and football go on," Valverde said.
