Having made a remarkable start to the season with the 'Colchoneros', Memphis Depay is already suffering from physical problems, having missed 11 games last season through injury.
On Monday, in the derby against Rayo Vallecano, the Dutch striker scored his 2nd goal of the season, following the one he scored against Granada on Matchday 1. But after just 34 minutes, he was replaced by Alvaro Morata due to a muscle strain.
Atletico coach Diego Simeone was not so worried in his post-match press conference: "It's a shame about the injury to Memphis, who was in great form. He'll recover, the international break is coming up." The Madrid club gave no further details on the extent of Depay's injury or his future unavailability.
As a result, the former Lyon man is unlikely to be on the pitch at Civitas Metropolitano on Sunday (6.30pm) for the match against bottom-placed Sevilla. His participation in the Netherlands-Greece and Ireland-Netherlands matches is also in doubt, while the 'Oranje's' qualification for Euro 2024 is far from assured with 4th place out of 5 and just three points.
