The daily 'Marca' claims that Ferland Mendy, who is currently injured, was hoping for an improved contract this season, when he had been confirmed as a regular starter in Carlo Ancelotti's line-ups. The problem is that Real Madrid do not see it so clearly and even less so when they have him tied down until 2025.

Ferland Mendy in the first half of this season, was gathering enough arguments to ask for a contract improvement that he wants, but that is not going to be possible at least until next season. This is reported in the daily 'Marca', which indicates that the board is not ruling out the possibility of him leaving this summer if he is not happy with his situation.
The reality is that the Frenchman took over Marcelo's place as the undisputed starter for so many years until he was injured against Atletico in a Copa del Rey tie at the end of January. From then on, he has had to watch from the sidelines as Carlo Ancelotti has turned to David Alaba or other players from his squad to make up for his absences.
With this enforced absence, his chances of a renewal with a higher salary, something that would make sense if he was on the pitch every weekend at the moment, have been reduced. For the remainder of the season, therefore, it would be crucial for him to return to the line-ups for the final matches, the definitive ones, both in La Liga and in the Copa del Rey and Champions League.
With his mind already set on the summer, he will have to decide whether to push for a renewal, look for another destination or remain loyal to his role at Real Madrid.
