Leo Messi and Luis Suarez materialised early on Saturday morning the image they had been projecting for the last four years: that of being teammates again and reuniting in Miami. The two of them walked out onto the Inter Miami training pitch together to kick off their pre-season training camp with the rest of their teammates.
They were the last to leave the dressing room. Previously, the rest of the players had done so with the other two former Barcelona players in front, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, who greeted the rest of their teammates.
Since Suarez left Barcelona for Atletico in 2020, four years have passed until this reunion, a time in which he wore the jerseys of Nacional in Uruguay and Gremio in Brazil.
Messi's departure to the training ground was evident moments beforehand when his inseparable bodyguard, Yassine Cheuko, could be seen on the pitch. He will continue to accompany the Inter Miami star this year.
The Argentinian and the Uruguayan remained together at all times, smiling and joking in a training session led by the Argentinian Tata Martino. The former Barcelona players were together for many moments of the session, showing their joy of sharing a team again.
Afterwards, they carried out one-touch passing exercises in pairs, with Suarez playing alongside Messi and Busquets with Alba. Martino supervised the exercise by walking between the pairs and pausing for a few minutes with his former Barca players.
This was the first training session of a season in which Inter Miami are favourites to be MLS champions, as well as the rest of the competitions they will face: CONCACAF Champions Cup, US Open Cup and Leagues Cup.
