A lot of people have criticised Leo Messi throughout his career for taking the back seat, or for not having, off the pitch, the leadership qualities that he has on it. However, they clearly had not seen everything that there was to see.
Thanks to an extract of the Netflix documentary about Argentina's route to the last Copa America, Messi's most emotional side has come to light, when he touched his teammates with a pre-final pep talk.
In one of the Maracara's changing rooms, the star from Rosario pulled on the heart-strings, talking about the time they had spent away from their families, citing one specific example. Emiliano Martinez, for example, became a father during the tournament, and, as the number 10 said, "he hasn't been able to see his daughter yet".
Before finishing his speech, he wanted to remind them of the place. The Copa America should have been hosted in Argentina and Colombia, which would have meant they would have played the final at home. However, Messi emphasised how epic it would be to win the title in Maracana against Brazil, something which ended up happening.
