hanks to the Leagues Cup the Argentine won on Saturday with Inter Miami, Leo Messi won his 44th title and equalled Dani Alves as the player with the most trophies in history.
The Argentinian genius was only ahead of his former Brazilian team-mate at Barcelona, who is now on trial in Spain for sexual assault.
But in less than a month at Inter Miami, Messi has utterly transformed the dynamic of a losing team (bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference with 11 straight games without a win) and led them to a miraculous run that capped Saturday's Leagues Cup triumph over Nashville (1-1, 9-10 on penalties).
There is some conflicting information about how many titles Alves actually has, with some statistics stating that he won 43. However, FIFA, in a 2021 post on X (the old social network known as Twitter), recognised 44 titles in the right-back's career.
Messi's impressive track record includes the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2021 Copa America with Argentina as well as four Champions League titles with Barcelona.
