Leo Messi playing in Argentina's match against Saudi Arabia put the Argentinian captain in the selective club of those players who have played in five World Cups.
At the moment, Messi joins Mexicans Antonio Carbajal and Rafael Marquez, Italian Gianluigi Buffon and German Lottar Matthaus, who are the only others to have achieved such a feat. Nobody has played in more than them in the competition's history.
It is another record which other players can equal in the Qatar World Cup, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, and Mexicans Andres Guardado and Guillermo Memo Ochoa, who are in Qatar with their sides who have not yet kicked off.
What is more, Messi consolidated his appearance at his fifth World Cup with a goal after just 10 minutes, after benefitting off Leandro Paredes winning a foul.
This was not enough to see off their Saudi Arabian rivals, after a second-half comeback gifted the Middle-Eastern side all three points.
