Messi set to win his eighth Ballon d'Or: 'Sport'

According to 'Sport', Lionel Messi will receive the Ballon d'Or trophy on 30th October in Paris. The Argentinian star could win his eighth Ballon d'Or, his first without playing in Europe.
The 36-year-old was crucial to Argentina's success at the World Cup in Qatar in December and played a key role for his national team. He was named as the best player of the 2022 World Cup after lifting the trophy as captain.
If Messi were to win his eighth Ballon d'Or, he would become the player who has won the trophy the most times and would beat Rodri Hernandez, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne in the ranking.
As for the women's Ballon d'Or, Aitana Bonmati is the favourite, after winning La Liga and the Champions League with Barcelona, and the World Cup with Spain, being the best player in all these tournaments.
