Everything's changed in Leo Messi's situation at Paris Saint-Germain. Before, during and just after the World Cup, it all seemed to be going swimmingly, but things have now changed, placing the Argentine further and further away from Paris. 'L'Equipe' reported something which may place the man from Rosario out of the club.
The mentioned source claimed that the Parce des Princes side have given the seven time Ballon d'Or winner an ultimatum if he wants to stay, and it's none other than taking a big pay deduction. It's been speculated that the club have asked him to earn a quarter of what he currently does.
If the striker doesn't accept said offer, Leo Messi will leave the Parisian side as a free agent, with a return to Barcelona getting closer. As for the player, he's hoping to know where the club's going, as with Galtier at the helm they're not going through their best form.
Getting knocked out of the Champions League against Bayern Munich and the latest defeat against Lyon has sparked a crisis over the side's players and the dressing room's stars. It's worth remembering that the number 30 was recently booed and whistled by the fans in the stadium.
During the World Cup, Al-Khelaifi and Jorge Messi agreed that the ex-Barca man would continue in Paris for at least another season. According to this source, they didn't mention anything about wages or contract length. Five months later, the situation has taken a turn and PSG and Messi seem close to ending their relationship.
"We need to find ways to reduce the wage bill for two reasons. Firstly, to do with the 'Financial Fair Play' rules, but also to have more freedom to sign players in the transfer window. We're not going to lie, Messi brings money to the club, but it's the overall wage bill we've got to reduce", sources close to the club said.
